Lake Powell - A Magical Place
by First Mate
(Lake Powell)
My family and I have been coming to Lake Powell since 1965 - first staying in tents on the sandy beaches with the field mice scurring around at night; then on the flat red sandstone rocks with the same mice; then in rental houseboats; and now on our very own and very special Starry Starry Night - being a little crazy like Vincent.
At first we waterskied for miles and miles on still mirrorlike water and tubed. Now we water ski a little, the wakeboard, wakesurf, tube, kayak, paddleboard and jet ski. Boy, how times have changed the toys we play with.
Still, it is a Magical Place - gathering our family all together with the kids ranging in age from 2 to 20, playing together with their friends, in and out of the water - different groups forming - no fighting - just playing,, playing, playing and eating; and then crashing asleep at night to start again the next day.
A Magical Place to explore canyons that go back and back and back, walks on the beach early mornings and evenings. Always picking up what trash there is to keep it ready for the next adventure. Great food, smore parties and singing God Bless America!
The stars - so bright, so clear, so close. A Magical Place of renewal - of spirit - of family closeness, of friendships, of getting in touch with yourself and nature.
Yes, Lake Powell is a Magical Place!
I just love it.
